What have they done at school today?

The contribution of parents to their child's education can have a significant effect on that child's success and achievement in school and later life.

Along with all the other responsibilities of being a parent this is just another one to add to add to the list ... but it can be one of the most enjoyable.

We all love our children. We all want them to be happy and safe. We all want them to 'do well' in school and be successul when they are old enough to leave home and start living independently. We believe that if you know what your children are learning at school, you can take an active interest.

How many of you get the answer, "Nothing" when you ask your children this question: "What did you do at school today?"
Wouldn't you like to be ahead of the game and know what they are doing so that you can ask, "What did you learn in school today?" Or even better, "What did you find in your bug-hunt?" or "Let's look for symmetrical patterns when we go out shopping."

Want to know more about what's happening in lessons?

Below are links to 'curriculum overview' letters that are sent home to you so that you do know what your children will be learning in school. How you use it is up to you but it's a great starting point for getting involved.

Making a difference is quite easy. It's the greatest gift you can give to your child and costs nothing - it's the gift of time.

Take an interest. Talk to them. Share your ideas. Show them you care about what they're learning. Show them it's important and that you can enjoy it, too. Make a difference.

BLOGGING at Heath Hayes

We have our own Blog. This is an online journal - a window on our world. It's also a great way to keep in touch with what your child is doing when away from home on a study visit.

Click on this link to see some of the activities that have taken place at school.

We have also linked up with Australia. Using 'the weather' as a starting point we aim to learn about seasons, different ways of measuring and describing weather, change of season, the impact of climate change, impact of position on the Earth's surface as well as all the literacy and numeracy. One of the other huge outcomes will be in understanding cultural differences and similarities. To find out more take a look at our Weatherwatch blog
